My Kindergarten Years
Had flashbacks about my kindergarten days. The kindergarten class I attended was run by the "Barisan Socialis", a left-wing political party. The school was located at the ground floor of a shop house at Tras Street. A small tailoring shop shielded the school from public view. Teachers at the school were Chinese speaking, and their political views were pro-communist. Students were taught to sing praises of Mao Zedong, and performed songs and dances the Cultural Revolution way. During outings, we were told to repeat slogans proclaiming Cultural Revolution. We followed blindly without understanding anything. It was much later in my teens when I was more exposed to political history that I made out what those slogans were about. I can still vividly remember some of these.
